Reading this while sitting?
Maybe it is time to get up and stretch… go for a walk… take a run.
We are spending TOO much time sitting. And it is hurting our health with every minute that passes!
A desk job may mean sitting in the same position hour after hour.
Did you know being sedentary for long periods of time (like while at work all day) have been linked to increased obesity, cardiovascular disease and even death.
Our favourite tip: Get up and stretch every hour. Even if it means just stretching your legs and arms. You may feel awkward doing stretches at your desk but as you read this sitting in your chair you are adding tension and strain to your body!
Want to exercise at work? YOU CAN! For part of your time try sitting on an exercise ball, and ditch the office chair. Sitting on the balance ball engages muscles of your core, legs, back and even butt!
Here is a basic guideline to follow when using an exercise ball as a chair:
4’11” to 5’4″ height: 55 cm ball
5’4″ to 5’11” height: 65 cm ball
5’11” to 6′ 7″ height: 75 cm ball
*Make sure you are sitting with your knees at a right angle and your thighs parallel to the ground. Remember to pump the ball to its full capacity.
