Ever wonder what the trick is to picking ripe avocados?
Follow our tips, to always pick it ripe:
- Skin Colour. Check the outside colour of the skin, looking for a darker colour
- Touch test. Putting avocado in your palm, gently squeeze. (Do not use your fingers to avoid bruising). Feel for a firm gentle pressure. Hard: ripe in few days. Squishy: over ripe
- Stem test: remove the stem and look for colour. Green/light brown colour means it is ready to eat. Dark colour under stem means over ripe
Tip: Slow down the ripening process by putting them in the fridge! Speed up the ripening process by placing in a brown paper bag with a banana
Tasty and nutritious, eat more avocado:
FIBRE: Just half an avocado is full of fibre, including both soluble and insoluble. We need these types of fibre to improve digestive health, protect against certain cancers, prevent diabetes and heart disease and help to reduce cholesterol.
FOLATE: One cup of avocado provides almost a quarter of your recommended daily intake of folate. Folate is known for preventing neural tube defects, boosting brain power, and decreasing the risk of dementia.
GOOD FAT: Avocados are packed full of good health fats, including beneficial monounsaturated fat. Eating an avocado slows digestion and helps keep blood sugar from rising after a meal.
Happily enjoy a creamy ripe avocado for your next snack!
